Most Davidson patients who ask about a smile makeover come in with the same uncertainty: they know something about their smile bothers them, but they don’t know which procedure fixes it, how many appointments it takes, or what it actually costs. A smile makeover is not a single treatment — it is a sequenced plan that combines two or more cosmetic procedures into a coordinated result. Dr. Chris Meletiou has been building those plans for Davidson-area patients for more than 30 years. Call 704-875-1621 to schedule a consultation, or read what our patients have to say.
A smile makeover is a custom treatment plan — not a menu item. It starts with a consultation where Dr. Chris evaluates the condition of your teeth, gums, and bite, then identifies which concerns are cosmetic (color, shape, size) and which are structural (chips, worn edges, alignment). From that assessment, he builds a sequence of treatments that addresses each issue in the right order, so one step doesn’t undermine the next.
The most common mistake Davidson patients make before coming to us is treating one thing at a time — whitening first, then finding out veneers don’t match the brightened shade, or straightening teeth with Invisalign after veneers were already placed. Sequence matters. That’s what a makeover plan is for.
The order of treatments in a smile makeover is not arbitrary. Each procedure affects what comes next. Here is how a typical Davidson patient’s makeover is sequenced at The Smile Architects:
If teeth are misaligned, Invisalign comes first — before any cosmetic work begins. Placing veneers or doing whitening on teeth that still need to move wastes the investment. The iTero digital scanner maps the full Invisalign treatment plan before the first aligner is made, so Davidson patients can see the projected result before committing. Treatment typically takes 6–18 months depending on complexity.
Whitening is done before veneers or bonding are placed — not after. The reason: porcelain and composite resin do not respond to bleaching agents. If whitening comes last, new restorations will be a different shade than the natural teeth around them. Whitening first establishes the target shade, and new restorations are then color-matched to it. In-office professional whitening at The Smile Architects takes approximately one hour and delivers results significantly stronger than over-the-counter products.
Once alignment and color are established, restorations address shape, size, and surface. Porcelain veneers — ultra-thin ceramic shells bonded to the visible surface of teeth — are the anchor treatment in most comprehensive makeovers. They correct deep intrinsic staining, chips, cracks, gaps, and size inconsistencies in one step. Each veneer is custom-designed around the patient’s facial structure for results that read as natural, not “done.”
Dental bonding handles the same concerns on a smaller scale — one or two teeth with minor chips or gaps where a full veneer is not warranted. Composite resin is applied and sculpted chairside, with no removal of natural tooth structure in most cases. Many Davidson makeovers use both: veneers on the prominent teeth and bonding as a complement where it fits.
When a tooth has significant structural damage alongside cosmetic concerns — a deep crack, large existing filling, or decay that compromises the foundation — a same-day CEREC crown is incorporated into the makeover plan. CEREC designs, mills, and places a custom ceramic crown chairside in a single visit. No temporary crown, no second appointment, no waiting two weeks for a lab.
Most Davidson adults in good general oral health are candidates for some form of smile makeover. The consultation is the only way to know for certain — Dr. Chris evaluates enamel condition, gum health, bite function, and the specific concerns you want to address, then tells you honestly which options are realistic, how durable each will be, and what the cost-benefit tradeoff looks like. There is no commitment at the first visit.
Active gum disease or untreated decay must be resolved before cosmetic work begins. When Dr. Chris identifies these at the initial visit, they are sequenced into the overall plan as the first phase — so cosmetic results are not built on a compromised foundation.

Purely cosmetic procedures — whitening, veneers, bonding — are typically not covered by insurance. Dr. Chris provides a full cost breakdown at the consultation before any treatment begins. Cherry 0% financing and CareCredit are available for Davidson patients planning phased or comprehensive makeover treatment.
Most Davidson smile makeovers combine two to four procedures — commonly whitening, veneers, and bonding, or Invisalign followed by whitening and veneers. Dr. Chris builds each plan around the individual patient’s goals and dental anatomy rather than a preset package. The consultation is where that number gets determined.
A whitening-and-bonding makeover can be completed in one or two visits. A makeover involving Invisalign followed by veneers typically takes 12–24 months from consultation to final result. Dr. Chris outlines the full timeline before any treatment begins so Davidson patients know exactly what to expect.
No — bleaching agents only affect natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers and composite bonding will not change shade. This is exactly why whitening is sequenced first in any makeover that includes veneers or bonding — natural teeth are brightened first, then restorations are color-matched to the new shade.
