Periodontal disease develops when plaque and bacteria build up along and beneath the gum line, leading to inflammation that can affect the gums, the ligaments, and the bone supporting your teeth. Left unaddressed, it can progress from mild gum irritation to more serious tissue and bone loss over time. Routine dental visits and steady home care are among the best ways to catch and manage it early.

Gingivitis is the earliest stage, where gums may appear red or swollen and can bleed during brushing or flossing, though there is typically no bone loss yet at this point. If it continues without treatment, it can advance into periodontitis, where the supporting bone and tissue begin to break down, pockets can form between the teeth and gums, and teeth may eventually loosen. Our team offers a range of options to help manage periodontal disease at whatever stage it is caught, and we encourage patients to reach out with any questions about their gum health.
