Don’t let chipped, uneven teeth sabotage your smile. Porcelain veneers are an efficient, effective way to dramatically alter the appearance of your teeth.
Porcelain veneers may be the best option if your original teeth are fractured, chipped, overlap, have small gaps or if you have yellowed teeth that don’t respond to bleaching.
Porcelain veneers consist of thin ceramic layers that are individually sculpted to cover the surface of each tooth. The porcelain shell is carefully matched to your existing enamel, before it is permanently adhered. To apply a veneer, a very small amount of the original tooth enamel is removed, creating room for the porcelain veneer to fit on top. Your natural teeth remain largely intact and the new porcelain layer is nearly impossible to detect. The high-tech porcelain material can provide a bright white appearance to any tooth and is much more stain resistant than your regular teeth.
Any patient considering porcelain veneers should also consider the fact that veneers are not reversible. Your dentist is removing part of your original tooth so adjustment and/or replacements are possible, but not going back to the original tooth. Sensitively to hot and cold beverages are common but dissipates after a few days. Porcelain veneers are very strong however it is important not to place excessive stress as they can be brittle; chewing ice and using your teeth as an opener should be avoided.
Caring for your porcelain veneers is as simple as caring for your original teeth. You should continue with your routine dental check-ups by your dentist who will inspect your dentistry for any sign of potential failure. Veneers are stain-resistant and durable, providing an “instant” dental makeover that lasts.
